Our quarry, located in the scenic Hudson Valley, has been home to magazine, television and film shoots. If you are a location scout interested in filming here, please contact Leigh Nannini, Community and Public Relations Manager, at 845-496-4323.

Last week tonight with john oliver, 2020 special

When John Oliver’s office contacted us about filming an “explosive” end of year special, we knew it would be like no other production filmed at our location. Together, HBO and Callahan and Nannini Quarry constructed a large scale 2020 sign - totaling 140 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 40 feet high - on the bottom of our mine. This took weeks of work, countless safety briefings, and an overwhelming team effort between our staff and the production crew. When the time came, the sign was loaded with explosives and blown up, putting a metaphoric end to the fiasco that was 2020. We maintained our strict non-disclosure and kept the site private, which was a challenging task. Our biggest and most complex production to date, this was one for the record books. Good riddance, 2020!

Escapte at Dannemora

Escape at Dannemora

The director behind this limited series based on a 2015 prison break in upstate New York came to our facility looking to recreate scenes from the escape. Multiple sets were built on site, and we also worked with crew members for more than three months making sure all details were ironed out. In addition, our landscape provided privacy to the film director, cast, and crew, which was extremely important to the process.

Location scouts visited our mine numerous times in an attempt to recreate a military training base in Afghanistan, but a last-minute change in the script left us delivering material to their set on Staten Island, New York – no small feat. Our material made the perfect backdrop.

Verizon Fios

The advertising agency behind Verizon Fios came to us looking for an open location where motorcyclists could put their engines to the test to create a feeling of “speed.”

Our quarry played fictional home to the Land-Bridge North American Pipeline in season one of the highly-acclaimed drama Madam Secretary. Our landscape mimicked Northern Alberta, Canada.

Drill Bound for Mars Tested at Local Quarry

Calling with one of the most unique requests we’ve heard, Honeybee Robotics contacted us seeking a place to test their latest creation – a drill with the capability of traveling to Mars. The production, which took place in late 2001, was truly an experience and caught the eye of local media. As stated in a Cornwall Local article, “The quarry is playing host to engineers from Honeybee Robotics, which is testing a drill that will be used on Mars if the tests prove successful. Honeybee is developing the fully automated drill under contract to the National Aeronautics and Space Administrations.”
